I was born and raised in the country in Enterprise, Alabama. I have one older sister who could do anything, baton, gymnastics, dancing, sewing, piano, everything we tried that girl picked it right up. But. She couldn't draw. Naturally, drawing became my favorite thing to do. I drew all the time, especially when I was supposed to be taking notes in high school...
As a child everyone asks you what you want to be when you grow up. All I ever wanted to be was a mom. So when graduation time came and the real world hit I decided to go to college, I didn't know what I wanted to do and college is like saying "I'm not ready, let me go to school a little while longer to decide". When the counselor asked what I liked to do I said draw. My parents said sure. There for I blame my parents loyal support for my BFA, Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree. I met my best friend the day after I moved to Mobile, Al for college, we married 3 years later, and had our first son a year after that. We went on to have 4 more children, 4 sons and one little lady. Living the dream. We moved to Miramar Beach, Fl in 2009 and that is when I began my photography career.I taught myself, I Google'd everything I wanted to know, kept notebooks after notebooks. I had no idea how much work was involved. I thought as many others "I'll buy a good camera, take pictures for an hour some afternoons and work from home". It takes hours to create one web page, hours upon hours to edit, hours to research SEO, technical issues, marketing, pricing structure, responding to clients, I've never worked so much in my life. And I love it. I achieved the front page of Google results at year 3 and have remained there. That's huge guys in case you didn't know lol. There are over 1000 photographers in the Florida panhandle all vying for front page. When my husband and I separated and it was time for me to be the breadwinner, I was ready.
I want this for you.
There is no list, no formula to success. It all depends on so much, not the least of which is the individual's idea of success. But I can tell you in easy to understand terms things I wish I had known when I began.
I can tell you that you can do this. Look, if I can do it as a single mom with 5 kids, teacher of special education, diagnosed with narcolepsy, POTS and hemiplegic migraines, then you can to.
